Police reiterates call for responsible social media use
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reiterating its call for people to use social media responsibly in light of a 2008 video currently being circulated on the various platforms.
The video, the JCF stated, depicts an act of human trafficking, in which a child is being exploited by a relative.
“The then Organised Crime Investigations Division (OCID) now Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) had carried out an operation in 2007 and two men were charged and subsequently sent to prison, the JCF stated.
The Police High Command used the opportunity to urge Jamaicans to desist from circulating false or misleading information as it may cause undue distress and panic and may re-traumatise victims.
They asked that rather than clicking the share button, concerned people make a report by calling Crime Stop, the police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
