#RacersGrandPrix: Rudisha beaten into 2nd as compatriot Tarbei cops 800m win
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Kenya’s two-time world and Olympic champion David Rudisha was beaten into second by compatriot Willy Tarbei in the men’s 800m at the second staging of the JN Racers Grand Prix currently ongoing at the National Stadium.
Rudisha bided his time in second before making his move on the final lap and looked all over a winner in the final 10 metres of the event, but Tarbei came storming on the inside to win in 1:44.86.
His winning time ranks him sixth in the world this year, while Rudisha’s 1:44.90 ranks him at number seven.
American Erik Sowinski was third in 1:45.27.
The winning time was just outside the stadium record of 1:44.72 set in 1977 by Mike Bolt.
