NPTAJ supports ban on ganja edibles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) today expressed support for the recently imposed ban on ‘cannabis edibles’ and called on the Government to “keep a tight lid” on the products until the necessary and appropriate measures are established to protect children.
NPTAJ said its concern is based on likely exposure of cannabis edibles to students, particularly through the now uncontrolled vending arrangements that exist at the gates of many school. The organisation also urged parents to become “extremely circumspect” on the various’edibles’ being consumed by children.“We must continue to be vigilant in protecting the health of our children,” NPTAJ expressed. The Ministry of Justice in May announced a ban on ganja edibles, which include cakes and brownies, after the National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA) raised concerns about the use of the products.
