$2-m ganja bust in St Thomas, St Elizabeth
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police are reporting the seizure of ganja, with a combined worth of more than two million dollars, in separate incidents yesterday.
In the first incident, reports are that between the hours of 9:30 pm and 2:30 am, lawmen were on operation on Nuts River Road in Lyssons, St Thomas when a house was searched and 473 pounds of compressed ganja, along with seeds weighing a little over eight pounds, were found in the basement.
One man, whose identity is being withheld for the time being, was taken into custody.
The second seizure occurred in St Elizabeth where a team of officers from the Narcotics Division was conducting operations when they tried to intercept a motorcycle.
The driver, upon seeing the police, threw away a package and managed to escape. The package was retrieved, and 74 pounds of loose ganja was discovered wrapped in tarpaulin.
The police said the seizures have a combined estimated street value of $2,188, 000.
Investigations continue.
