Paulwell to observe UK election
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Leader of Opposition Business Phillip Paulwell has been selected as the only member of the Jamaican Parliament to be a part of the CPA UK Election Assessment Mission (EAM) to observe the general election in the United Kingdom.
The former minister and now Opposition Spokesman on Energy will be one of 30 members of the EAM.He will represent the Jamaican Parliament in support of the EAM Head of Mission whose responsibilities will be to:• Provide leadership of the EAM and its members• Act as the official spokesperson for the EAM• Act as lead observer• Conduct high-level meetings throughout the mission and act as senior liaison for all senior stakeholders•Oversight for the preliminary and final reports.Paulwell is slated to depart Jamaica and join the mission from June 3-10.Prior to his departure Paulwell is slated to undergo a two-day intensive training programme.According to a statement, all members of the EAM must be physically fit and will be expected to work long hours, especially on Election Day; and must be willing to participate in the entire programme of activities, which will include physically demanding schedules.“This is a tremendous duty and much is expected of me by both the British and Jamaican people. I am very aware of the responsibility of being selected and I intend to justify my selection by representing my country and its people with honour and respectability,” Paulwell said in expressing his pleasure on being selected.
