Bingi Banga making his name
FLEDGLING dancehall act Bingi Banga has attracted the attention of European producers with his sound. He is making waves with songs such as the pop-influenced Miss World ( Who’s That Girl?) , and the fast-paced, soca-flavoured Touch Up Yu Feelings released last year on the Food Palace Music label.
“Europe and the Caribbean are responding well to the songs; there are plans to shoot videos for the projects given the positive feedback in the streets and on the radio,” said Bingi Banga, whose real name is Shawn Taylor, said.He grew up in the rough neighbourhood of Jones Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine, where he attended Ensom City All-Age. Bingi Banga performed on community stage shows in the Spanish Town area, building his reputation.A few years later, he met Danish producer Pharfar of the well-regarded international reggae label, Food Palace Music who encouraged him to use the moniker Bingi Banga, after a slang recorded in the intro of one of his songs.“The slang just connect so mi just work with it. The songs dem a work in. the most popular one so far is
Miss World, because it is playing on the radio,” he said.Established producers have begun to send beats his way, and he has recorded new singles such as
Boring for Jones Avenue Productions,
Too Much (Mineral Boss Records), and a pair of singles,
Cowskin Desert and
Sure (JM Technology Records).“Right now, the ting fully up in the streets; ah full force we ah go,” he ssaid.
