Two taxi operators, woman charged with assaulting police in HWT
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Two taxi operators and a woman, are to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court next Thursday after being charged with yesterday’s assault of a police officer in Half-Way Tree.
According to the constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the officer and his colleagues were in the process of seizing a motorcar, which was reportedly operating contrary to its road license, when he was attacked.CCU said the officer was collared, shoved and hit several times. The incident happened about 5:15 pm.The taxi operator who allegedly carried out the physical attack on the policeman was charged with assaulting police, abusive and calumnious language, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He has been identified as 30-year-old Domain Richardson, otherwise called ‘Chin’, of a Kingston address.Meanwhile, a second taxi operator and a woman, who the police said were part of a group that became boisterous and aggressive in preventing them from performing their duties, were subsequently arrested and charged.The taxi operator, 27-year-old George Malcolm, otherwise called ‘Junior of a Spanish Town address in St Catherine, was also charged with assaulting police, abusive and calumnious language, disorderly conduct and obstructing the police.The woman was charged with abusive and calumnious language, disorderly conduct and obstructing the police. She is 35-year-old Shani Fairclough of a Kingston address.The Police High Command said, having examined a video being circulated of the incident, it is advising all well thinking citizens that when approached by the police, peaceful surrender should be adopted.“At all times mutual respect must be maintained. The police remain relentless in carrying out Public Order Duties as we seek to create safer communities,” it added.
