Sentencing of policewoman convicted for harbouring fugitive again delayed
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The sentencing of a St James policewoman, who was earlier this year found guilty of harbouring a fugitive, has once again been delayed.
Constable Kaye Falconer was to be sentenced yesterday however, this was delayed until June 26.When the matter was called up on yesterday in the St James Parish Court, Parish Judge, Natalie Hart-Hines was told by Falconer’s attorney, Adrian Dayes that a psychiatric evaluation report, which was to be presented to the court to assist with determining her sentencing was not ready.Without divulging too much information on what appears to be a sensitive issue, Dayes said the expert needs more time conduct further assessment of Falconer.”Let me put it this way, he wants more time for a further assessment and to do up a proper report. That’s our position. You are looking for a proper report, he needs more time to do a proper report,” replied Dayes to questions being asked by Judge Hart-Hines.During further deliberation, the judge asked, “is she a danger to herself or anyone?” However, Dayes assured that this was not the case.Sentencing was previously delayed in April due to this report.Falconer’s bail was extended.Police reportedly found an escaped prisoner, who the lawmen had described as dangerous, at Falconer’s home in Glendevon in February of 2013.Other police officers were also charged for the January 30 release of the prisoner from the Freeport Police Station in St James under what is being considered as questionable circumstances.Anthony Lewis
