Enigma show a success
JAIME Rose, principal of Liquid Gold Modeling Agency, is pleased with last Sunday’s staging of the Enigma Fashion Show and Awards Ceremony, held at Curphey Place in St Andrew.
The event, now in its second year, saw several of the island’s top designers showcasing their creations in an intimate setting. Awards were also given to people who have contributed to the fashion industry.“I’m happy with the crowd and very pleased with the designers that were on show, as each of them brought their ‘A’ game. Every designer came out with fantastic pieces,” Rose told the
Jamaica Observer after the event.Designers Heneka Watkis-Porter, Verna Doeman, Natoya Dulatt, Jennifer Barnett, Mark Brown, Simone Gordon, and Courtney Washington were on show.“Courtney’s collection was outstanding. Verna Doeman’s office wear were well received and, after the show had ended, people were going to her and enquiring about pieces. Patwa Apparel (by Heneka Watkis-Porter) was truly Jamaican and they represented Jamaica. In fact, all the designers represented well,” said Rose.Washington was the evening’s final designer. His elegant, easy-flowing and accessoried resort wear brought cheers from the delighted audience.“With Courtney Washington designs, it’s always unique. I create based on the mood I’m in, so you’ll find that one will never know what to expect… It’s a resort collection so, being on the beach, you can imagine yourself in the white. Accessories for 2017/2018 is very important, so I try to give some focus on that,” Washington told the
Observer.“I support the industry, and what goes on here in the island. I was invited by Mr Rose months ago and I told him ‘yes’… The shows I’m on, I try to do them as unique as I possibly can, and accessories are a feature on all the shows that I am.”Washington was also one of the designers at Saint International’s Fashion Block held in New Kingston later that evening. It was the final event for that model agency’s annual StyleWeek.Gordon’s pieces were also well- received.“It’s an Afrocentric -inspired Caribbean blend… a blend of resort wear, evening wear and casual pieces,” said Gordon, winner of the 2014 Saint International Avant Garde Award. She also left the event to showcase her designs on Fashion Block.Awards were given to six recipients: Petulia Clarke and Brian Bonitto of the
Jamaica Observer; Krista Henry and Jodi-Ann Gilpin of
The Gleaner; Scott Wilson,
