PNP seeks support for lawsuit against banks
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Opposition Peoples’ National Party (PNP) is seeking to rally support on social media for a class action lawsuit against banks for charging fees on dormant accounts.
The PNP in a tweet a short while ago asked its followers, who may have lost money in dormant accounts, to join Member of Parliament Fitz Jackson as he organises the lawsuit.The MP is seeking to recover funds lost in dormant accounts and through his Twitter handle, asked for information to be emailed to him at jabankfee@gmail.com.Despite several commercial banks suspending dormant account fees since the issue was raised earlier this year, Jackson, in his Parliament appearance on May 9, said it was “not enough” where there had been a breach of the law.The Bank of Nova Scotia, National Commercial Bank, First Global and CIBC First Caribbean have suspended fees on dormant accounts.
