JET launches Labour Day cleanup photo competition
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) today launched a competition, inviting Jamaican community groups, service clubs, academic institutions, and nongovernment organisations to submit “before” and “after” photographs of their Labour Day cleanups for the chance to win cash prizes of up to $50,000.
A release from JET said that the competition, dubbed the ‘Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica Cleanup Network Photo Competition’, was the latest initiative under its ‘Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica’ campaign.
The photo competition is being hosted by JET with the support of the Tourism Enhancement Fund and the Wisynco Group, who fund the Clean Coasts Project and ‘Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica’.
JET Project Coordinator Felicia Wong was quoted in the release as saying “This year Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica is all about encouraging communities to host their own cleanups – and Labour Day is a perfect opportunity to keep that ball rolling.”
Labour Day will be on Tuesday, May 23 this year.
Groups can enter the Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica Cleanup Network Photo Competition by submitting two high-resolution photographs of a site where they have hosted a cleanup between May 8 and 28.
One of the photos should be taken before the cleanup, and one should be taken after. Photos, details of the cleanup and contact information for the entrants should be sent to JET via email to nuhduttyupjamaica@gmail.com no later than 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 28.
Photos must also be shared publicly via social media channels – Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter with the hashtags #NuhDuttyUpJamaica and #NDUJPIX. According to JET, three winners will be selected from submissions to receive cash prizes and will also be included in a Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica Cleanup Network feature in the media.
Detailed criteria and rules for the photo competition can be found on the Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica website: www.nuhduttyupjamaica.org.
