New JPS chairman appointed
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has announced the appointment of its new Board chairman, Seiji Kawamura.
Kawamura succeeds Chang Sup Jo, who served as Chairman of JPS during the period June 2014 – April 2017.Kawamura has worked with Marubeni Corporation – one of JPS’ main shareholders – since 1994. He has served Marubeni in a number of capacities, ranging from: project manager at the Manila Branch in the Philippines, vice president of San Roque Power Corp in the Philippines (a large hydro plant), to his last position in the region as chief financial officer of Marubeni Caribbean Power Inc.Seiji Kawamura was first appointed as a JPS board director in August 2007, a position he has since maintained. Kawamura holds a Bachelor of Economics from the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.The company has expressed its deep gratitude to former Chairman Chang Sup Jo, who will remain on the Board, as it welcomes Seiji Kawamura and looks forward to his contribution to the company and Jamaican’s energy sector.
