Andre Russell to know fate Monday
KINGSTON, Jamaica – West Indies cricketer Andre Russell will know his fate on Monday as the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) appeal against his sentence for an anti-doping whereabouts violation is set to be heard.
JADCO is reportedly seeking to have the maximum two-year ban imposed for the violation.
Meanwhile, the Commission said today that it will be holding a media briefing on the appeal on Monday at 10:00 am at its Kingston 10 offices. The participants will include Executive Director Carey Brown and other members of JADCO’s board of directors.
Russell had a 12-month ban imposed by the Independent Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel in January after it found that the cricketer breached an anti-doping whereabouts regulation over a 12-month period between March and September 2015.
In March 2016, JADCO alleged that Russell failed to file his whereabouts, resulting in him missing three doping tests over a 12-month period between March and September 2015. Under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations, that equates to a failed test.
The anti-doping appeal tribunal consists of:
Justice Karl Harrison (retired) – chairman
Justice Marva McIntosh (retired) – vice chairman
Dr Kurdell Espinosa – member
Dr Audley Betton – member
Dr Maria Smith – member
