#SectoralDebate: Victims to be able to gain compensation from convicts — Chuck
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Justice Minister Delroy Chuck in his contribution to the 2017/18 Sectoral Debate this afternoon, disclosed that victims will soon be able to gain compensation from persons who commit crimes against them.
The minister said that the Plea Bargain Bill would propose to enable convicts, who plead guilty, to make offers of compensation to victims and have that be taken into account to mitigate their sentence.
Chuck also said that legislation would soon come to Parliament to allow judges to make orders of compensation to victims in sentencing.
Chuck, in updating Parliament on the moves taken by his ministry since entering office, claimed that his administration has done more in the justice sector since entering office than had been done for a decade.
