PNP calls for clean-up of voters’ list
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) President Dr Peter Phillips is calling for a house-to-house verification programme to ensure the accuracy of the nation’s voters’ list.
A release from the party yesterday said Phillips, in his first address to the party’s second highest decision-making body, the National Executive Council (NEC), advocated for the for the Electoral Commission to clean-up the voters’ list ahead of any future election.Phillips reportedly called the clean up key to protecting Jamaica’s democracy, saying: “Having an accurate list does many things most importantly it protects our democracy. If the list is not accurate persons could lose respect and confidence in the system and when that happens, persons may resort to other methods to secure votes in order to hold on to power”.The newly installed PNP president has embarked on a listening tour which will take him to Westmoreland this week, according to the party release.
