#PennRelays: Danniel Thomas sets new shot put record
PHILADELPHIA, United States — Danniel Thomas has added the Jamaican national women’s outdoor shot put record to her indoor record after she threw a massive 18.49m at a meet at Ashland University in Ohio, USA today.
Thomas, who was representing Kent State University and twice broke the indoor record held by Kimberley Barrett in March, twice went over the national record of 18.28m set by Kimberley Barrett in 2004.
The Olympian first broke the record on her second throw when she threw 18.32m then went further on her final attempt.
She beat her previous personal best 18.13m that was set earlier this month in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and moved her up to fifth on the IAAF rankings tables for this year.
This was the second time this week that a female national record was being broken after Kellion Knibb broke the discus throw record for the second time in a week winning at Penn Relays with 62.07m.
