JFJ condemns killing of constable
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Human rights organisation Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is this afternoon condemning yesterday’s execution-style killing of Constable Leighton Hanson.
Hanson was killed when he was disarmed after attempting to apprehend a suspect on Constant Spring Road in the vicinity of Merl Grove High School about 3:50 pm Friday afternoon.
JFJ, in a statement today, offered its sympathy to the family and colleagues of Hanson. JFJ said it “totally condemned the criminal act that ended the life of our defender”.
The organisation said families of police officers deserve all the solidarity that citizens can give them, as it called for social support for the family of the slain constable.
JFJ said that among the priorities of new Commissioner of Police George Quallo should be psycho-social support systems for officers.
