Flu outbreak rocks U-17 Boyz ahead of Mexico clash
PANAMA CITY, Panama — Jamaica team doctor Bersha Cole is at this hour treating eight players showing symptoms of a flu virus affecting Panama City.
The players — some of whom are expected to figure in the crucial Group C game against Mexico on Saturday of the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship — are Damani Osei, Akeem Mullings, Kaheem Parris, Kimani Gibbons, Akeam Priestly, Richard Thompson, Daniel Tussell and Nicque Daley.
Osei and Mullings were taken to hospital for follow-up treatment, but have since returned to the team hotel.
“Over the past two days a number of the players complained of headaches, fever and decreased appetite and one or two of them also had diarrhoea, and all of these symptoms are really consistent with a viral illness,” Cole told OBSERVER ONLINE.
