#SectoralDebate: 60-day amnesty on traffic tickets begins July 1
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Security Minister, Robert Montague has urged all Jamaicans to participate in a new amnesty on traffic tickets that will begin July 1 and last for 60 days.
Montague’s announcement came as he noted Government’s intention of passing the new Road Traffic Act, which will modernise existing legislation and promote greater safety for Jamaicans.The minister was making his contribution to the 2017/2018 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives this afternoon.He explained that “the amendment will modernise the old Act and promote greater safety for all our citizens”.With this amnesty, people will be able to pay outstanding tickets without penalty or interest, the minister said.The updated Road Traffic Act will repeal and replace the existing Road Traffic Act of 1938 and will establish new road traffic offences as well as provide increased penalties for current offences.Moya Hinds
