KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dr Rory Dixon has become the first Jamaican to be appointed Chief Medical Classifier by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Trained in orthopaedics, Dr Dixon, in 2015, also had the distinction of being Jamaica’s first international classifier for the IPC.In response to the announcement today, Christopher Samuda, President of the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA) – of which Dr Dixon is a Board Member – said: “Congratulations to our colleague Director on this tremendous accomplishment. He has now admirably paved the way for his country men and women to follow and this is what we at the JPA promote. Well done Rory.”Dr Dixon’s first assignment as IPC’s Chief Medical Classifier will see him providing his medical expertise at the Abierto Nacional de Para-Atletismo Santiago de Cali 2017, to be held in Cali – Estadio Panamericano, Colombia from April 28 to 30, and hosted by the World Para Athletics.Other members of his team will be Pamela Wilson, USA; Dilene Brito Souza, Brazil and Felipe Siso-Cardenas of Venezuela.
