Sequel of a bad man
Production on the sequel to Diary of A Badman is scheduled to start this summer, according to movie director Diemiruaya Deniran.
He told the Jamaica Observer that his team is currently seeking local actors.
“There are 58 roles available and 92 per cent of that will be native Jamaicans, as it is very important to keep the movie authentic. I want to show different sides of Jamaica,” said Deniran. “I have a scene that takes place in Heroes’ Park and the hope is to boost tourism.”
So far, he has reached out to established actors Christopher Daley and Paul Campbell. There may be a few surprises.
“I am hoping to get Bounty Killer on the project, and would also like to have Christopher Martin play a role in this movie. I have written a main character here for him. Malik Yoba and Leon Robinson have also showed an interest in the sequel,” Deniran said.
In the sequel, Winston “Bucky” Bailey is deported to Jamaica after serving eight years in United States Federal prison. His hometown Kingston is run by a new generation of gangsters.
Bucky (played by Douglas A Robbs) feels he must do something to change the lawlessness in the city.
Diary Of A Badman was filmed in sections of New York and New Jersey. It co-starred Jacinth Sutphin, who plays Simone Williams — a Jamaican immigrant to the United States — who is working undercover on a high-profile case.
It won Best Feature Film at the 2015 JAMPRO Film Festival in Kingston and was shown in Jamaican cinemas last year.
Deniran was born in London, but relocated to New York in 1996. In 2010 he released Kush, his first short film.
This was followed by similar productions, Soul Remover and Transaction.
