Top juniors for Guardian Life Open Tennis Championships
SEVERAL of Jamaica’s top junior players are expected to participate in the 2017 Guardian Life Open Junior Tennis Championships, scheduled to be held April 8-9 at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston.
Action is set to begin at 9:00 am each day.
Tournament director Llockett McGregor, who gave an overview in his address at the launch at the Liguanea Club yesterday, said the event will be the first of a two-part series that continues to contribute to the development of junior players across the island.
“It has been 16 years that Guardian Life has been sponsoring the championships and, once again, we are extremely pleased to be associated with their support,” he said.
McGregor said the players will be vying for trophies in the various categories for boys and girls in the age groups of 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, along with beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.
According to the seasoned organiser, the categories which are expected to be most competitive are boys and girls under-12, under-14, and under-16.
Some of the players expected to be in action are Mario Campbell, John Azar, Ryan Cox, Daniel Hill, Kyle Martin, Jenna Harrison, Haley McNair, Moesha Fox, among others.
In addition to trophies and prizes, the winners in each category will also receive points towards their national rankings.
Meanwhile, Anjell Bryan, manager of integrated marketing and communications at Guardian Life Limited, said her company is again “very proud to be investing in the youth”, and has been doing so for the 17th-straight year.
