Woman accused of prostituting teens for court April 4
A pregnant Kingston vendor accused of pimping two minors, who were reported missing from their home in Portland, is scheduled to return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on April 4.
Twenty-three-year-old Mary-Ann Downie, of Denham Town, was arrested on February 1 and charged with child trafficking, living off the earnings of prostitution, and having in her possession a child in need of protection and care.
Downie should have appeared in court on Monday but her lawyer, Richard Lynch, told Parish Judge Andrea Pettigrew-Collins that she has been having “dizzy spells” and is at the Kingston Public Hospital.
He also told the judge that she has not taken up her $300,000 bail and asked for the matter to be mentioned on April 4.
According to allegations, police, acting on information, went to the home of the accused where it was reported that two missing girls — ages 13 and 14 — were staying and arrested Downie, who had been allegedly harbouring the teens.
Reports are that the accused carried the two girls to different locations in the community to have sex with men in return for money, which she then allegedly used for her own benefit.
