Ministry says no evidence of lead in curry sold locally
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries is reporting that there has been no evidence of lead in curry samples sold locally.
Earlier this year, 26 samples of curry sold locally from 17 companies, were collected and tested following a recall of the products by the United States of America on December 12 by the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA).
Portfolio Minister, Karl Samuda said he is pleased at reports that no evidence of lead has been found in samples of powdered curry sold locally.
The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) advised Minister Samuda that the samples, which were tested in January and February, were found to be acceptable and without evidence of contamination. They also stated that the companies were formally advised of the results.
