#BudgetDebate: Special sitting of Parliament to be arranged in Simpson Miller’s honour
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness this afternoon disclosed that a special sitting of Parliament is to be arranged to honour outgoing People’s National Party President and former prime minister Portia Simpson Miller.
He thanked the Opposition leader for her years of dedication and commitment to the people of Jamaica after previously noting that “politics is a thankless and sometimes heartless job”.
The prime minister also encouraged politicians from both sides of the floor in their endeavours, adding that politics “is the greatest (public) service that man can give to man”.
During her final budget presentation in Parliament last Thursday, Simpson Miller labelled the moment a bittersweet one and thanked her mentors and the people of Jamaica for their support.
Simpson Miller will hand over the reins of the party to Dr Peter Phillips on April 2.
