#BudgetDebate: Gov’t considering measures to discourage soda consumption
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness, making his contribution to the national budget debate in Parliament this afternoon, said the Government would be considering ‘fair’ measures to discourage the consumption of sweetened drinks.
He said more than 50 per cent of the population was overweight and lamented that so many of Jamaica’s students consumed soft drinks (sodas).
The prime minister said Health Minister Christopher Tufton would disclose more in his presentation on the Government’s plans to promote a healthier Jamaica.
