The ‘Samurai’ is getting sharper
The growth and rise of Fearless Samurai came into full view on Saturday, as the chestnut gelding by Fearless Vision – Sayuri, produced his best effort from his six starts to win the Front Runner sponsored Prince Consort Stakes.
In doing so, Fearless Samurai significantly increased the din around his chances in the upcoming Classic races.
The Complete Racing Guide analyses the final results of the Front Runner Prince Consort.
FIRST – Fearless Samurai: Came in as the favourite and left with a much-enhanced career profile of four wins from six starts. Used his pace to jostle for the lead but jockey Omar Walker held back a bit before hitting the front early in the straight and then Fearless Samurai went away for a convincing three-length win. The change from the blinkers to the cheek pieces by trainer Wayne DaCosta seems to have done its job of keeping Fearless Samurai’s focused on the task at hand especially in the straight. Being an April foal,Fearless Samurai is still in his two-year-old year, meaning there is still further scope for improvement. The favourite’s tag for the 2,000 Guineas now rests on the frame of Fearless Samurai. A good run.
SECOND –Western Warrior: Gave his best ever run in the Prince Consort. Western Warrior went for the lead from the outside draw and although, Fearless Samurai took over proceedings from the top of the straight, the Fitznahum Williams trained bay colt kept on resolutely to hold second. Quite an improvement from Western Warrior and the hope now is for this progress to continue. A first class effort by Western Warrior.
THIRD – Don Chassis: Was prominent throughout the race without ever really causing a problem to the winner but Don Chassis did not give up in the straight which is a good sign for future engagements. Don Chassis is a consistent performer who will give of his best whenever he races. A suitable run by Don Chassis.
FOURTH – Dontae: Was not with the early pace and did his running late in the straight. Dontae despite finishing fourth was only four lengths behind the winner. Dontae might find it better when the longer races come around later in the season. Still a horse to watch.
FIFTH – Radical: Was nowhere in the early stages of the race and like Dontae was noticed making late headway in the straight. Beaten a head by Dontae for fourth and is going to find it more comfortable the longer he goes in the races to come. Radical is coming along well and might be an earner in the future Classic races.
SIXTH – Ictus: Did not cause any trouble to the top five.
SEVENTH –
Secret Traveller: Slowed a bit early and that was that.
EIGHTH – Rambunctious Links: Not ready for these.
NINTH – Pleasant Secret: Needs time, much more time.
