More confidence after She’s A Maneater’s victory
After She’s A Maneater’s emphatic victory in the $1.3- million Front Runner Thornbird Stakes last Saturday, trainer Wayne DaCosta said that his confidence has grown a lot going into the April 8, 1,000 Guineas Classic race.
However, it’s horse racing and DaCosta knows very well that there are no certainties. “Good performance, yes, but I think it was even better than a good performance by She’s A Maneater.
“She (She’s A Maneater) was hindered at the starting gates and she was second to last on the back stretch and to have made up that amount of ground carrying 57.0 kilogrammes and still going on to win is definitely a great performance.
“There are no sureties in horseracing but I am much more confident right now going into the 1,000 Guineas.
“As long as She’s A Maneater comes out of this race in good condition she should have more than a fighting chance in the 1,000,” DaCosta told the Complete Racing Guide.
Owner and breeder of She’s A Maneater, Winston Kong expressed surprise that She’s A Maneater defied the odds and came through for the victory.
“She got knocked out twice in the race and after that I didn’t expect her to win again but she hugged the inside rails, got a good run turning for home and luckily she got up in time and won the race.
“A true champion; after that run, she is definitely the horse to beat in the 1,000 Guineas,” Kong said.
