Heart institute to receive grant from Japan
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC) will this Friday hold a contract signing ceremony for a grant from the Embassy of Japan to the embassy’s Grassroots Human Security Project.
The region’s premier centre for heart disease said in a release that the grant will allow for the procurement of two ambulances, which will contribute toward the establishment of an islandwide dedicated cardiac emergency service in Jamaica.
This, HIC said was needed to reduce death and disability from catastrophic cardiovascular events.
Japan’s ambassador to Jamaica, Masanori Nakano, will be present to make the award.
The release said Japan’s Grassroots Human Security Project provides “flexible and timely support to development projects at the grassroots levels such as NGOs, hospitals, schools, local authorities and other non-profit organizations”.
