‘Iron Dog’ Raye, Vassell to close Contender
Miguel ‘Iron Dog’ Raye and the up-and-coming Jermain Vassell bring the curtain down on the Wray & Nephew Road to Contender Build Up Road Show as the caravan rolls into Breds Park, Treasure Beach, in St Elizabeth, tonight.
The two previous stagings of the road show were well-received by fans at Colonel Cove in Morant Bay, St Thomas, and at Island Village in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
The six-round contest over six rounds between Vassell and Raye, both previous Wray and Nephew White Overproof Contender Series fighters, will be the main attraction on the highly entertaining programme.
To add to the evening’s diverse presentation will be two top amateur fights, along with the receptive and extraordinary potpourri of the local entertainment genre.
Another item of interest will be the announcement and presentation of the eight local fighters who will compete at the seventh annual Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Contender Series at the Chinese Benevolent Association, CBA, in Kingston on Wednesday, April 5.
Sakima Mullings and Devon Moncriffe are two former winners of the Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Contender Series crown who are listed amongst the eight local boxers to be presented to the audience.
Jamaica will compete against boxers from Canada in the Junior Middleweight Division this year, and boxer Richard Holmes, who reached the last two finals of the series against winners Kemahl Russell in 2015 and DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley last year, will be also present.
Tsetsi ‘Lights Out’ Davis, who lost to Mullings in the 2014 final, Ramel Lewis, Ricardo Planter, newcomer Nico Yeyo, and Gregory Miller, who lives in Canada, will complete the list.
