TAJ extends income tax filing deadline
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has extended the deadline to file final 2016 income tax returns and estimated returns for 2017 to Saturday, March 25.
Business owners, self-employed people, partnerships, companies and employed individuals with other sources of income or multiple employment, will have until the new deadline to file their returns before the interest and penalties are applied.
The TAJ said taxpayers will be able to file on or before the extended deadline to avoid the $5,000 monthly penalty charged for late returns, adding that with tax season drawing to a close, people are strongly advised to file and pay before the extended due date to avoid the expected higher than normal last minute rush.
It said free tax support will be available at select Tax Offices this and every Saturday up until the end of April at the following locations:
• Constant Spring
• Montego Bay
• Spanish Town
• May Pen
• Mandeville
• Savanna-la-mar
• St. Ann’s Bay
The TAJ said the Portmore Tax Office will continue its regular Saturday opening.
