Who really sing it?
So if you haven’t been paying attention, dancehall artiste Alkaline, has been involved in a number of feuds since 2016. However there appears to be one that he himself was not a part of. Let’s break down where it all began.
In June 2016, Spice performed at Reggae Sumfest where she spoke about dancehall artistes who claimed to “run dancehall” and are claiming the title of ‘boss’. Spice proceeded to sing her own version of Vybz Kartel’s song
Di House A Bun Down where she called out Alklaine saying “Alkaline not even inna teacher class”. Then in January 2017, Vybz Kartel, released
Closed Casket which was supposedly aimed at Alkaline and the Vendetta crew. In response to this “Alkaline” released a diss track called
Prison Warder which not only dissed Vybz Kartel but also Popcaan, Spice, Tommy Lee, Beenie Man and Ishawna.
It was later revealed that the person who sang
Prison Warder was not Alkaline but another recording artiste named Fabian, who coincidentally sounded a lot like the dancehall artiste. The song starts with a line directed to Vybz Kartel, “A me a run di city, you a lock up inna jail enno. Tek yuh mind off a bail…” he also responded to Kartel’s song
Closed Casket saying, “close him own casket, tell me how a dead man fi a talk…”. Popcaan or “Flopcaan” as he is called in the song is also called with one lyric, “Flopcaan the microwave bun up yuh head…” which was in reference to Alkaline’s Popcaan diss track titled “Microwave”. Spice was also called out for her comment, “Yuh shoulda brave up like Spicey, weh a chat up her mouth”. Fabian also responded to her comment at Sumfest 2016 saying, “seh mi nuh inna teacher class, mi graduate that mi done pass…”.
The drama was not finished there, in response to Fabian’s song, Spice released her own diss track titled “Who Sing it”. The song begins with the snippet from
Prison Warder where Fabian calls her out. Spice wasted no time confronting Fabian about the derogatory comment he made about her. Along with the other jabs aimed towards Fabian, Spice also stood by her opinion about Vybz Kartel “The Teacher” running the dance hall, saying, “It bun you tru mi seh the world boss a di boss, deh a prison and him still a teach you inna di class…”.
Now that Spice’s diss track has been released, everyone is waiting to see if there will be any response from Fabian or Alkaline. Regardless of the outcome let’s hope this doesn’t escalate further.
