1. Peter Abrahams’ death being treated as murder
The police disclosed today that Peter Abrahams’ death is now being treated as a murder after the pathologist concluded that the injuries that led to his death were deliberately inflicted.
2. Man beaten by St Thomas students charged with assault
An ancillary worker who was reportedly beaten by a group of boys at St Thomas Technical High School yesterday was today charged with assault. It is said that the charge was proffered after one of the students complained of chest pains as a result of the melee.
3. Klansman member sentenced to 10 years
Jordan Markland, a member of the notorious Klansman Gang, which operates in Spanish Town and environs, was today sentenced to 10 years under the 2014 anti-gang legislation.
4. Cops kill alleged 3rd in command of ‘Ski-Mask’ gang
The police today reported that Jermaine Samuels, the alleged third-ranked commander of the ‘Ski-Mask’ criminal gang, was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police in Settlement district, Old Harbour Bay yesterday.
5. Russell gets one year ban
West Indies Twenty20 star, Andre Russell, was today ruled out of several major upcoming global tournaments after being slapped with a 12-month ban for an anti-doping whereabouts violation.
6. St Elizabeth businessman arrested for failure to file tax returns
A St Elizabeth businessman was arrested last week Friday by the Major Organised Crime Agency (MOCA) for his failure to file tax returns for the years 2012-2015. He was offered bail and is to return to court on February 20.
7. Gasolene retailers threaten ‘strong action’ in Rubis impasse
An escalation in the impasse between Rubis and a dealership in St Ann’s Bay over the termination of the dealership, resulted in the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA) threatening Rubis with ‘strong action’. JGRA accused Rubis and other petroleum marketing companies of failing to recognise the group as a registered trade union representing members in the retail trade.
8. Leverkusen signs Jamaican teen Leon Bailey from Genk
German team Bayer Leverkusen used the last day of the European transfer window to sign 19-y-o Jamaican forward Leon Bailey for 12 million euros .
9. Trump’s ban on Muslims ‘nothing to worry about’, says Islamic Council of Jamaica
The Islamic Council of Jamaica (ICOJ) says that Muslims here in Jamaica have nothing to worry about regarding the recently announced executive order by President Donald Trump.
10. New wage agreement for construction workers
A new agreement was signed yesterday for wage and fringe benefits improvements for unionised sites between trade unions and the Incorporated Masterbuilders Association of Jamaica.
