Lukewarm first run by She’s A Maneater
Many including her connections wanted to see and then to analyse the seasonal bow of top two-year-old filly of last year She’s A Maneater when she raced on Saturday over seven furlongs in a Restricted Stakes event.

Well, She’s A Maneater racing against six fairly moderate horses with the blinkers on for the first time, did win very comfortably by over eight lengths but left many wondering whether or not she had made any significant improvement in her career since being beaten by Sotomayor in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes on December 27 last year.
Her trainer Wayne DaCosta, while happy with the win was not particularly pleased with the run by his Natural Selection – Ahwhofah bred bay filly.
“It was a workmanlike performance by She’s A Maneater. I mean, I would have liked to see her go a bit faster but I am happy based on a quick first look that she came out of the race fairly well.
“It was the first time she (She’s A Maneater) was wearing the blinkers and so it was like a trial-and-error situation for her; maybe we will work her without the blinkers next time and see what happens.
“Further, I will have to get the opinion of jockey Omar Walker whether or not She’s A Maneater likes the blinkers or not.
“The fact is that she won with it today (Saturday) and we now have to wait and see where we go from here,” DaCosta said.
She’s A Maneater, under a tight hold from Walker, was restrained in third position shortly after the start as the American-bred Gato Dorado (Robert Halledeen) dictated the pace up front from the chasing Little Big Horn, the mount of Andre Powell.
Walker then let loose a notch and She’s A Manaeter slipped down into second position, a head behind, on the outside, of a ridden Gato Dorado rounding the half-mile turn before he took control of the race at the top of the straight.
Without any challengers in deep stretch to test her ability, She’s A Maneater, wasted no time and simply skittered away, lengthening her every stride to the wire.
Another Fury (Mellisa Ward), who was expected to challenge the winner, was outpaced from the start and did well in the stretch run to finish a clear second ahead of Little Big Horn and Gato Dorado. The splits for the race were 23.1, 46.1 and 1:11.4.
It is interesting to note that this was She’s A Maneater’s second win going seven furlongs (1,400 metres), with Saturday’s run just one fifth of a second faster than her win on November 26, 2016 in the Pick-3 Challenge Trophy.
