Big showdown
Most eyes are expected to be on the battle between the top two teams when the Red Stripe Premier League continues today.
Champions Montego Bay United (MBU) will host former winners Tivoli Gardens FC at WesPow Park in one of the anticipated clashes of the season.
Montego Bay lead the preliminary points standing with 42 points from 20 games, while second-placed Tivoli have 39 points.
Both teams have been in pretty good form coming into this encounter.
Dillon Thelwell-coached MBU are unbeaten in their last five games, winning three and drawing two. Last time out they clipped visitors Jamalco FC 2-1.
Tivoli Gardens, who have made a resurgence this season under the guidance of Head Coach Omar Edwards, have won eight of their last 10 games while losing once. Tivoli also came up blank in a 0-0 stalemate with Humble Lion FC last week.
In another game set to have tongues wagging, fifth-placed Portmore United (34 points) host Arnett Gardens FC, who are sixth with 28 points, at Spanish Town Prison Oval.
The excitement is expected to be no less at Mona Bowl campus where the University of the West Indies (UWI) FC entertain Humble Lion FC.
UWI are third with 38 points, while Humble Lion are fourth with 35 points.
At Wembley Centre of Excellence in Clarendon, the home team Jamalco, ninth with 20 points, take on seventh-placed Reno FC (25 points).
At Barbican Sports Complex, last-placed Boys’ Town FC (15 points), occupying one of two relegation places, take on eighth-placed Maverley Hughenden FC (20 points).
In another game today, old rivals Waterhouse FC and Harbour View FC — both struggling down the low end of the table — battle at Drewsland Stadium.
Waterhouse are mired in a relegation battle, sitting 11th in the 12-team table with 18 points.
Harbour View are 10th with 20 points.
All games are slated to begin 3:00 pm, barring the encounter at Drewsland Stadium which is set to get going at 6:00 pm.
