Twiggy, Sadiki collab on an oldie
With You I’m Born Again, a song recorded by singers Sadiki and Twiggy, enters the New York Reggae chart at number 30. The song was produced by Skinny Bwoy Records.
“Sadiki and I have been working together for about three years now and he suggested that we do a collaboration. I asked him to choose a song and that was the song he came up with,” Twiggy said in an interview this week.
With You I’m Born Again was originally recorded in 1979 by soul singer Billy Preston and R&B singer Syreeta Wright, ex-wife of Stevie Wonder. Their version reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number four in the UK.
Twiggy has scored chart hits with songs including It’s Too Late, Old Time Love, Power of Love, Kiss Me One More Time, I Want Your Love, Do Me Baby, and Tears on My Pillow.
Twiggy (whose real name is Marie Gittens) began her musical career in 1989 after a successful audition with the veteran singer Tinga Stewart, doing background vocals in the studio. Very satisfied by her work, he introduced her to other producers, including Boris Gardiner and Ruddy Thomas.
Her career took off when she recorded for Donovan Germain’s Penthouse Records label in 1993. She moved from Penthouse in 1997 and joined the Shocking Vibes label the same year.
