She’s A Maneater takes on older horses
Top two-year-old filly of last year She’s A Maneater makes a surprisingly earlier start to her three-year-old campaign when she takes on older horses for the first time tomorrow at the Park.
The Wayne DaCosta-trained bay filly by Natural Selection – Ahwhofah just missed out on juvenile glory when she faltered a bit on Boxing Day (December 27), losing the Supreme Ventures-sponsored Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes over a mile, beaten by the colt Sotomayor who was later was voted as the champion two-year-old of last year.
Tomorrow over the somewhat safer distance of seven furlongs (1,400 metres), She’s A Maneater competes against some seasoned horses, including: Little Big Horn, the very consistent recent winner Another Fury, Miss Myrtle, and Vision of Gold. The only other three-year-old in the race is recent 41-1 upset winner on last, the Dennis Lee-trained El Gato.
The performance of She’s A Maneater will be closely watched, especially to find out the sort of progress, if any, she has made since her defeat on December 27.
It is never easy for horses at the beginning of their three-year-old careers to handle older horses, as She’s A Maneater will find out on the morrow, especially against a true fighter in the Fitzroy Glispie-trained Another Fury.
Interesting days are ahead.
