Chezidek hits out against racial divisions
Reggae singer Chezidek is addressing racial division in his soon-to-be-released single Because I Am Black.
“This is a song that talks about the plight of black people and how depressed we have been over the years. As a Rasta man I have to represent for Black people, which is not to put down any race because we love all kinds of people, but it’s a reality,” he told
Splash.
Because I Am Black is produced by MOS Productions. Even though the song is yet to be officially released, an accompanying video has been out since last November.
“The concept of the video was inspired by all of the protests we see on TV. We went to historical places with chains and shackles and this helped to show the struggles of black people. Don’t crucify me because I am black — that is the message of the song. We are all one family,” he said.
Chezidek’s given name is Desbert Johnson. He said he is working on a yet-to-be titled album to be released this April. However, he’s not in a rush to complete it.
“Sometimes you have to relax and enjoy life; that’s how you find real inspiration. You have to live, love, cook, eat some food, bun some chalice, and as soon as we are complete then we do road,” he said.
He said Living in the Sunshine and Come In (bothproduced by MOS Productions) and Irie Days (Pappa Chezi Productions) are slated to be part of the set.
Chezidek’s last album, The Order of Melchezedik, was released in 2013 by Jah Solid Rock Music. It was produced by Marc Baronner. He is also known for songs such as Leave Di Trees, Can’t Hear Must Feel and Inna Di Road.
