Twin sisters accused of luring girls via escort website
TWIN sisters, accused of creating a website which lured young girls into prostitution, were both offered $300,000 bail when they appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.
Twenty-eight-year-old Allison and Mellison Nembhard were offered bail on charges of soliciting for immoral purposes and living off the earnings of prostitution following a successful bail application by their attorney, Alijyasu Kanderkore.
Parish Judge Andrea Pettigrew Collins offered the sisters bail on condition that they report to the Constant Spring Police Station every Monday.
On January 6, police, acting on information, went to premises at Highland Drive in St Andrew, which was allegedly being used as a massage parlour.
Two young women were seen at the premises and after being interviewed by the police, they allegedly indicated that they became aware of the location through a website advertising jobs for escorts.
Allison, who resides at the premises, and her sister, who resides in the Red Hills Road area, were both arrested.
Kanderkore, during his application, told the court that his clients were denying the allegations and were not involved in prostitution.
He reiterated that his clients were both employed full-time as freelance virtual assistants on websites and had no previous convictions.
Last Friday, when the bail application was first heard, the police had objected, saying that they feared the sisters, if granted bail, would interfere with the material on the Internet that they wanted to have removed.
However, Parish Judge Pettigrew-Collins, who had suspended the application last Friday, told the prosecution that the police had more than enough time to secure the evidence that they wanted and offered the sisters bail.
They are scheduled to return to court on March 13.
