SANTA Charity Golf Tournament returns for another round
The Seeing A Need, Taking Action (SANTA) Charity Golf Tournament returns to Constant Spring Golf Club for another round of golf for a worthwhile cause.
With CB Facey Foundation as the main sponsor since 2013, the much-anticipated Christmas season event will feature the Chip & Putt Registration party this Friday, the Junior segment on Saturday, and the adult tournament on Sunday.
Over $4 million was raised by SANTA for needy charities in 2015, and in the Christmas spirit of giving, the organisers aim to raise $5 million this year. The main beneficiaries this year will be the Wortley Home, Boys’ Town Infant & Primary School, Lalyce Gray Basic School (based in the community), and the Constant Spring Police Station.
SANTA is Jamaica’s premier and largest amateur golf charity tournament. The initiative — formed by concerned citizens and businesses — has helped over 20 different charities since 2001 by contributing over $40 million in money, time, equipment and materials. This year marks the 16th anniversary of the SANTA golfing event, which is a winning combination of sport, charity, fun and celebration.
On Saturday 8:00 am – 12:30 pm, the juniors section will cater to all skill levels and allow a maximum participation of 50 golfers from six to 17 years old. Three boys and two girls from Boys’ Town have been selected to participate.
The junior golfers will play 18 holes in a shotgun tournament. This means that everybody starts at the same time on a different hole in groups of approximately three persons. The benefit is that everyone will finish at the same time and can join the barbecue and pool party which follows at 1:00 pm. It is expected to be a creative and fun day with lots of kids activities.
On Sunday, with tee times as early as 6:30 am, the adult section will open to all adult golfers with a Jamaica Golf Association registered handicap. Each adult player, up to a maximum of 144 players, will get to play a full round of 18 holes. Overall, there are approximately 53 prizes, including a 60” LED television and several large- screen LED televisions, as well as other electronics and gift baskets. However, there is a lot of excitement regarding the coveted Facey Cup, which is up for grabs by the overall winner.
“We are thrilled to be the title sponsors for yet another SANTA Charity Golf Tournament as we are dedicated to satisfying children’s needs. This partnership aligns with the values of our foundation, as we see a need and take action for the charities and organisations that will benefit this year,” said Brittany Singh Williams, executive director of CBFF.
The SANTA Charity Golfing Event is presented for the third consecutive year by title sponsor the CB Facey Foundation, which is Pan-Jamaican Investment Trust’s charity arm. Jamaica Broilers Group, The Gleaner, RJR Group, Walkers Wood, Hot Off The Press, BCIC, First Venture Ltd, Couples Resorts Jamaica, Pepsi/Gatorade, and The Joan Duncan Foundation, JPSCo, the Guardsman Group, among others have added their support to SANTA.
A number of VIPs who have committed themselves to supporting this important fundraiser, are expected on Friday at the Registration and Chip & Putt tournament at the Constant Spring Golf Club, beginning at 6:00 pm.
Registration is now open at Yes Golf Shop (924-5170) at Constant Spring Golf Club. Entry, inclusive of entertainment and food, is $13,000 for adults and $4,000 – $7,000 for juniors. Payment may be made by cash, cheque or credit card.
Participants and spectators may pledge donations via pledge cards available at the tournament or on the new CB Facey Foundation website
