An enhanced evening
Enhanced, a short film by Joshua Paul, made its second local outing at a recent Film Night at the Liguanea Club in St Andrew.
“This is our first film night and the emphasis is to feature local productions and producers,” Kadiene Duncanson, sales and marketing manager at the Liguanea Club, told the Jamaica Observer.
Enhanced had its premiere on October 23 at the University of the West Indies, St Andrew, on November 23.
It stars Lamardo Christopher who saves a young girl from a pair of kidnappers played by Fitzroy Walters and Kevin Jackson. The big reveal is that he has superpowers gained from a drug.
“I saw the opportunity to fill a void on the Jamaican film scene,” said the 23-year-old self-taught flim director Paul.
According to Paul, Enhanced took him a year to write, a month to shoot, then four months in post-production. Shot entirely in Kingston, the 15-minute film was self-funded. However, he acknowledges he got plenty of support from his cast and crew.
“I’d like to see a six-episode series that further explores the main character come out of this,” he said.
While Paul will be pursuing local funding, the film has gained international exposure as it was screened in New York City as part of the Urban Action Showcase International Action Film Festival earlier this year.
“Right now, I’m already working on a second project, a script for my first full-length feature film,” he said.
