Wolmer’s pair wins 18 and under boys’ title at Douglas Burke Junior Tennis Doubles
WOLMER’S Boys’ pair of Gregory Spencer and Mario Campbell captured the 18 and under title at the 2016 Douglas Burke Junior Tennis Tournament at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre recently.
Spencer and Campbell, both coached by David Sanguinetti and seeded as the top pair, defeated the Ocho Rios pair of Norman Black and Gerry Hunter 4-2, 4-2 to secure the title.
The 18 and Under Girls’ doubles final was won by the top pair of Selena Blythe of Campion College and Kobi Wilcott of St Andrew High School For Girls, who defeated Moesha Fox and Kathrine Dibbs of St Andrew High School For Girls in straight sets 4-2, 5-3.
Top pair Jordan Vaz and Nathan Chin were winners of the Boys’ 14 and Under doubles scoring a 1-4, 5-4 12-10 (super tiebreaker) win over second-seeded pair of Kyan Muire and Joshua Graveney.
Brothers Jairdan Gibbs and Kosei Gibbs captured the Boys’ 12 and Under doubles final with a 6-1 win over the pair of Cruz Kow and Gaynor Stewart.
Gabreille Bernard and Alicia Pearman crushed Alessi Freckleton and Jessica Gentles 6-0 to capture the Girls’ Open Dot Ball doubles final.
The Boys’ 14 and Under consolation doubles final was won by the pair of Jonathan Millwood and Brandon Lue, who beat Joshua Haye and Matthew Wright 6-2.
Ashley Daley and Onika Shaw beat the pair of Layna Johnson and Aliyah Foresythe to win the Girls’ Open consolation doubles.
Chairman of the Douglas Burke Invitational Doubles Tournament, Arthur Phillpotts, said it was a very good tournament and the junior players turned out in their numbers.
He congratulated all the winners and all who participated to make it a successful event, and also thanked the sponsors for their continued support.
The final tournament in the Douglas Burke Doubles will be on December 17 and 18 at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre.
