Clarendon College, STETHS lift spirits in south-central Jamaica
Mandeville, Manchester — The football fraternity in south-central Jamaica are on a high following the advance of two schools from the region, Clarendon College and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) to the final four of the ISSA/FLOW Super Cup schoolboy football competition.
Clarendon College hammered Excelsior High 7-1 in their quarter-final encounter at Sabina Park in Kingston on Saturday. And, at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, STETHS, defending champions in the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup and Ben Francis Cup competitions, cruised past Bridgeport High 2-0.
Cornwall College are the other rural school into the semi-final round, after edging Rusea’s High 4-3 on penalties. This was after regulation and extra time ended with the scores tied at 1-1.
Prior to now, STETHS, in the inaugural 2014 season, had been the only rural team to reach the Super Cup final four.
In semi-final games scheduled Saturday at Sabina Park, Clarendon College will face Cornwall College in a clash of the two ‘CCs’ while STETHS will face the only surviving Corporate Area team, Wolmer’s Boys’.
Last Saturday, three goals from captain Creggton Charlton led the way in Clarendon College’s humiliation of Excelsior High.
Charlton scored in the 25th, 51st and 85th minutes. Other Clarendon College goals came from Dominic Lemont (54th), Donovan Noble (61st), Shande James (65th) and Nicque Daley (71st).
In Montego Bay, goals from Alex Thompson and Demar James in the 18th and 78th minutes gave STETHS victory over Bridgeport High.
