Cornwall College remain perfect with 14th- straight win
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — Cornwall College extended their perfect run in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition after beating Glenmuir High 2-0 in their Group P quarter-final game played at Juici Park, Clarendon Park, yesterday.
A goal in each half each from, Jourdaine Fletcher and Peter-Lee Vassell, carried Cornwall College to their 14th-straight win in the competition and avenged a 0-2 loss to the same opponents at the exact juncture of the competition two years ago.
Dinthill Technical had their perfect 12-game win streak snapped after they were edged by Lennon High 1-0, while defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), Manchester High, Clarendon College, Rusea’s High, Vere Technical, and Little London were also winners yesterday.
At Juici Park, Cornwall College dominated the possession and scoring chances but failed to make use of their superiority, though Fletcher gave them the lead in the 36th minute with his fifth goal since the start of the Inter-zone round, while Vassell made the points secure late in the game with his sixth goal.
Manchester High joined Cornwall College on three points in the group after they edged Ocho Rios High 1-0 at Drax Hall with Ajay Chin scoring the lone goal of the game.
Javoney Brown scored a double and Denroy Miller got the other as champions STETHS got by Fair Prospect High 3-0 in their Group R game at Lync h Park.
Vere Technical also won in Group R, beating Petersfield High 3-1, with Ronaldo Thomas getting two and Shavaughn Robb the other to join STETHS on three points.
Rusea’s High came from a goal down to beat Paul Bogle High 2-1 in their Group Q game at Jarrett Park in a game in which the entire second half was played in a heavy downpour.
Romario Kelly shot Paul Bogle into the lead in the 12th minute, but Shawn Bradford equalised in the 17th minute before Leonardo Fogarthy equalised midway the second half.
Lennon High are level with Rusea’s High on three points after spoiling Geoffrey Maxwell’s debut as Dinthill Technical’s coach, as Christopher Randall’s third goal since the start of the Inter-zone made the difference.
It was back-to-back losses for Dinthill after they were beaten by the same scoreline by Bridgeport High in the first round of the FLOW Super Cup after they had won their first 12 games.
On Tuesday, Dinthill relieved Kevin Williams of his coaching duties after a dispute with the team’s manager over the weekend.
Clarendon College are the leaders in Group S after Nicque Daley scored a hat-trick to beat first-time quarter-finalists Steer Town 3-0 in the first game at Juici Park.
Another first-time qualifier, Little London, came from a goal down at half-time to beat Spot Valley High 2-1 at Jarrett Park.
Rogewayne Thompson gave Spot Valley the lead in the 11th minute, but Little London, who got out of the first round as one of the best third-placed teams before topping their Inter-zone round, rallied with two opportunistic goals in the second half.
Develle Murray drew them level in the 53rd minute after he kicked in from less than a foot out along the touchline and then Shane Ricketts scored the winner in the 83rd minute.
