Vere cop last Flow Super Cup spot despite defeat to Glenmuir
HAYES, Clarendon — Vere Technical completed the qualifiers for the FLOW Super Cup despite losing 2-1 to Glenmuir High in their rescheduled Inter-secondary Schools’ Sports Association/FLOW daCosta Cup Inter-zone game at the Wembley Centre of Excellence in Hayes yesterday.
Despite going down to their first loss of the season, Vere topped Zone Seven on goal difference after all four teams finished on four points.
Vere Technical finished with a goal difference of three, while Glenmuir High moved from the foot of the table into second place after edging Seaforth High on the second tiebreaker of more goals scored after they were tied on a goal difference of zero after three games.
Glenmuir High got goals from Javaun Ennis and a defender, while Shandel Senior scored for Vere Technical.
Vere Technical, who will play Kingston College in the first round of the lucrative Super Cup at Sabina Park on Saturday, join the other seven qualifiers Cornwall College, Rusea’s High, St Elizabeth Technical, Clarendon College, Ocho Rios High, Dinthill Technical, Vere Technical, and Little London High.
Glenmuir High, meanwhile, qualified for the quarter-finals of the daCosta Cup, which starts next Wednesday, and will be joined by newcomers Steer Town High who got the five goals they needed against Brimmer Vale High to edge Port Antonio High, also on more goals scored in Zone Six.
Romaine Thompson scored twice, while Christopher Graham, Dwayne Miller and Oneil Henry all got one each as they finished tied on four points and a goal difference of four behind zone winners Dinthill Technical.
Steer Town, however, have scored eight goals to Port Antonio High’s seven.
