Weekly Round-up: March Pen massacre ‘person of interest’ surrenders… Demolition halted… X6 murder trial delayed
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Residents of 85 Red Hills Road, St Andrew, on Thursday forced the delay of plans to evict them from the property as they used their bodies as barricades to prevent a bulldozer from tearing down their houses.
The bulldozer operator had to abandon the job after a stone was thrown, damaging the equipment’s windscreen. Residents eased their protest after the police called off the demolition and urged them to seek legal representation.
Marvin ‘Fat Man’ Campbell, who was wanted by the police for incest and later listed as a ‘person of interest’ in last Sunday’s grisly murder-arson on March Pen Road in Spanish Town surrendered to the police on Thursday.
Campbell was asked to surrender to police by midday Monday following the gruesome attack in which his son also died.
The victims — Salesha Evans, 24, and her nine-year-old son Revaughn Evans; Venisha Bartley, 22, and her two-year-old daughter Koyandra Wynter; and 14-year-old Marvin Campbell Jr were reportedly shot dead in their homes, which were then set ablaze by gunmen.
A man and teenage girl were also injured in the attack.
The police have since reported that an ongoing internal feud between the Tesha Miller and the Andre ‘Blackman’ Bryan factions of the notorious Spanish Town-based Klansman Gang was at the centre of the attack.
This gang feud, the police said, has resulted in the deaths of at least 77 people since Miller’s release from a US prison in April.
Meanwhile, the murder trial involving businessman Patrick Powell was again delayed on Wednesday but is scheduled to begin in the Circuit Court next Tuesday.
Powell is to go on trial for the 2011 killing of former Kingston College student 17-year-old Khajeel Mais.
