Hoping for the perfect ‘Storm’ Trainer Colin Blair to assess potential of
Trainer Colin Blair saddles Storm Princess in the Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy tomorrow at Caymanas Park.
He indicated that the filly’s preparation has gone fairly well and that he is expecting a decent run from her.
“Well,
Storm Princess has raced three or four times and did not do badly and came out with a win.
“On those occasions, she was not 100 per cent [fit] and was not as focused as she is now, due mainly to various issues.
“It is the best she has been since coming under my care and I believe that she has a chance to earn, and this race – the Cash Pot – should be a pointer as to where we go from here.
“Either we will run in the fillies’ Classics later on, or resolve to have her as below Classic potential.
“Her performance in the Cash Pot should be a pointer to what type of horse she will become,” Blair told the
Complete Racing Guide.
When asked what he saw in her that made him warm to the fact that
Storm Princess has latent Classic potential, Blair responded: “Well, her issues are not as pronounced as in the past, and her response to training has improved tremendously. Prior to her last race, she went 1:07.0 for 1,100 metres and one minute flat for 1,000 metres, effortlessly. This does not say much, because the track is fast and other horses can do fast times. And even then she was not right. I think she is working much better now than before. She has put on some weight, her coat is shiner and I like how she reacts during exercise gallops. With all the t’s and i’s being crossed and dotted respectively, I am expecting a decent run from her – not necessarily for her to win, but with a creditable run from her we can look at the prospect of preparing for whatever plans we may have in store for her later on in her racing life, be it in races for the two-year-olds or during the three-year-old season.”
