UPDATE: Demolition on Red Hills Road property halted
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – A standoff this morning between residents of a Red Hills Road, St Andrew property and the police, to stop a proposed demolition, has ended.
The standoff came to an end after the residents, who used their bodies as a barricade against a bulldozer, reached an agreement with the police
Residents insisted that they were not going to allow the bulldozer to flatten the structures on the property, referred to as ’85’ and appealed to the authorities to delay their eviction.
“We need more time, dem a murderer,” the angry residents of the informal community shouted.
The police took the initiative to postpone the demolition advising the residents to get an attorney to plead their case.
Yesterday, several of the residents burned T-shirts bearing the image of Member of Parliament Karl Samuda in protest against the demolition.
