Pearl McFarlane laid to rest
ANOTHER cast member of local TV soap opera Royal Palm Estate has died.
Pearl McFarlane, who played Jenny on the long-running drama, passed away after a long illness due to cancer. She was buried at Dovecot Memorial Park in St Catherine last Saturday following a thanksgiving service at Mamby Baptist Church in St Andrew.
Creator of Royal Palm Estate Lennie Little-White remembers McFarlane as a very professional actress.
“She first came to Mediamix back in the early 1990s to audition for a commercial for Cool deodorant, and I was just struck by her personality and charm. And when we started shooting Royal Palm Estate in 1992, I drew for her. She brought great qualities to the role and set. She was always very professional, always knew her lines and took the role seriously, unlike some divas.”
McFarlane’s character was a femme fatale in Royal Palm Estate, who would have a baby for Ted Blackburn, played by Reggie Carter. When Blackburn died, she took on his son — Richard — and was also the object of affection for the pastor played by John Jones.
The 65-year-old McFarlane joins three other cast members from Royal Palm Estate — Reggie Carter, Cyrene Tomlinson and John Jones — who have transitioned.
McFarlane is survived by her only daughter, hairstylist Trish McFarlane.
