FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Former champions St James High led six new qualifiers for the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup competition with a slim 1-0 win over Irwin High in their return-round Zone A game played at Jarrett Park yesterday.

Tyrique Clarke’s ninth goal of the season was enough for the Theodore Whitmore-coached team to move to 21 points and secure safe passage to the second round.

Cornwall College, meanwhile, secured zone honours after a 5-0 win over Green Pond High, their ninth straight win.

Cedric Titus, Holmwood Technical, Seaforth High and Paul Bogle also advanced, making it 15 schools that have secured their place in the 32-team round, set to start next week.

Cedric Titus gave up a 2-0 lead and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with William Knibb at the Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth, but did enough to improve to 18 points and to ensure they make it to the next round.

Holmwood Technical whipped May Day High 8-0 to improve to 21 points to make progress from Zone G, while Spalding should accompany them after blanking Bellefield 3-0 and who moved to within a point of qualifying.

Seaforth High beat St Thomas Technical 2-0 and improved to 22 points, while Paul Bogle are a point behind after a 4-1 win over Robert Lightbourne as both advanced from Zone O.

Former champions Rusea’s High secured Zone B honours after a 8-0 romp over Knockalva Technical with Sean Bradford scoring a hat-trick and Leonardo Fogarthy scored two goals.
